AAKAR | Pre-Fall 19 | The adaptability of human nature to resurrect and rebuild lies at the core of this collection. Using single pieces of fabrics in basic shapes such as squares and rectangles we have draped and pleated to create our line of clothing made up of easy layers and seperates. Khadi, Handwoven cotton and silk form the base fabrics for Hand Clamp Dyed stripes and Hand-embroidery.
We have worked on Khadi sourced from the Gandhi Smarak Grama Seva Kendram set up in 1948 25 kms from Kochi in South India. Devastated by floods in 2018 the very base of this sector that supports hundreds of spinners and weavers producing the finest khadi yarn and weaves was destroyed including looms and homes of Artisans. Save The Loom.org is working to resurrect this institution and we as a label have pledged to do as much as we can to help support this initiative.
